Product Description:
This is a set of Camaro 85-92 TPI Ram Air Boxes made of Aluminum. Modification to your exisitng Air Cleaner will need to be done before adding the Ram Air Boxes. Does not include the Air Cleaner. Includes boxes, installation screws and installation instructions. Designed by Hawks Third Gen Parts. Tested on a Stock 305 TPI with headers and FlowMaster exhaust with and without the Ram Air III box. The Ram Air III box helped the 305 TPI gain 12.5 hp and 19.2lb-ft of torque.
Installed these on my '89 camaro, the instructions that are included are thorough and the hardware is included. The provided self taping screws are a little longer than they need to be, but not a big deal. It did take some time to remove the plastic shroud in front of the radiator to make room for the air boxes, that was the most difficult part of the whole install.
The items in review are well constructed and straight forward. Some very minor modification to the plastic air filter tray is required. The only issue I ran into was not product related. I had already cut out and gutted my air box. I removed to much of the plastic lip that your secure the aluminum boxes to with the included screws. There needs to be three inches of plastic lip. Now I have a gap between the air box and the aluminum boxes. This can be corrected with some creative thinking and gorilla tape. Over all the boxes sit in the openings nice and definitely function as they're supposed to. If you remove the fog lights or install smaller LED lights then you would have maximum flow to the filter.
These are nicely built and strong.
The goods it does have improvement at higher speeds, I like that little extra sound to it...The bads needs improvement in sheet cutting and dammmmmm do a lil sanding and clear coat on it, take care of those two things and you guys will boost your sales on this Ram Air Boxes...
