82-92 Camaro/Firebird Steering Shaft Coupler New

The coupler was exactly right on a third gen Camaro. 130k car and this helped tighten up the steering! Removing the shaft took about 30 minutes and was reasonable. Then you will need to grind the old coupler off. I used an air cutoff wheel with a vise and was very careful around the intermediate shaft. It took about a good hour to cut and remove the pressed on mounts/large rivets. Then bolting the new coupler on was easy! Note: mark your steering box, intermediate shaft and steering shaft end just in case. Also, don't over tighten the lock nuts. The instructions included where great, but I wish there where torque specs on the bolts. I would guess maybe 10ft lbs.

My 82 Firebird had 185k on the original rag joint. I had quite a bit of slop to the steering even after replacing the tie rods, idler arm, center link, ball joints and wheel bearings. I ordered and installed this new coupler and now all the slop is gone from my steering. Fit was perfect, drives nice, love it.
